Amitabh Bhattacharya: News

When Amitabh Bhattacharya took a train from Lucknow to Mumbai with the dreams of making it as a singer in Bollywood, he may not have imagined becoming one of the most successful lyricists in the industry. Born on November 16, 1976, in Lucknow, Bhattacharya’s story is that of an accidental lyricist. After he arrived in Mumbai to pursue his dream of singing in movies, it was his struggle to land singing gigs that led him to write songs rather than singing them. First through advertisement jingles and then at the insistence of composer Amit Trivedi who later became a close friend of his, Bhattacharya soon realized his potential in songwriting. Nearly eight years after his arrival in Mumbai, Bhattacharya caught his first big break in 2009 with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dev D.’ Success of the songs in ‘Dev D’ made him a hot property in Bollywood. He received his first Filmfare Award in 2012 for the song ‘Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin.’ Later, he won his first national award for best lyrics at the 59th National Award for the song ‘Agar Zindagi’ from the film ‘I Am.’
